The Renewables Obligation (RO) is the main support mechanism for renewable electricity projects in the UK. It places an obligation on all UK suppliers of electricity to source an increasing proportion of their electricity from renewable sources.

The Renewable Obligation Certificate (ROC) is a green certificate issued by OFGEM to an accredited renewable energy generator for eligible renewable electricity generated within the United Kingdom and supplied to customers within the United Kingdom by a licensed electricity supplier. In Northern Ireland OFGEM manages the ROC administration process on behalf of the Utility Regulator.
