AutoCAD Technician

What made you choose the apprentice route?

The idea of making money while I learnt was of huge interest; and also the ability to gain further qualifications. That and the future opportunity to join NIE Networks and create a career.

How long was your apprenticeship and how long have you worked post apprenticeship with NIE Networks?

My apprenticeship itself was for 3 years; and I have been fully qualified and working as an AutoCad Technician for over 3 years now.

How has your career developed over time?

My career has developed well, I am now fully qualified in my role and enjoying the work so far. There is opportunity for continued progression within this role, and I am always learning which means no two days looks the same.

Explain a bit about your job? What does a typical day look like?

A typical day may change, somedaysI am in the office working on AutoCAD drawings of all types and some days I could be out GPS surveying planned or existing jobs around the country. I enjoy the variety of work involved.

Best bit of your job?

Best bit about my job is the people I work with, my colleagues are supportive and more than willing to help if I have any questions. I also enjoy have control over my own calendar, I know what work needs to be completed and by when but I have responsibility for managing my own diary to ensure I meet all deadlines.

Any advice you’d give to someone considering an apprenticeship with NIE Networks?

Go for it, you won’t regret it! It’s a great opportunity and a thoroughly enjoyed my training. The training team are there to help and support you every step of the way, and once fully qualified the team have been great to work with.

It is a great opportunity with lots of potential to continue learning and developing in a career.
