Consultation on Proposed Changes to Engineering Recommendations P2 and G5

NIE Networks proposes changing the following Distribution System Security of Supply Engineering Recommendations (EREC): EREC P2 Issue 6 (P2/6) to be superseded by EREC P2 Issue 8 (P2/8) and EREC G5 Issue 4 (G5/4-1) to be superseded by EREC G5 Issue 5 (G5/5).

EREC P2 modifications will be of interest to all industry stakeholders and users involved in the electricity industry, including generators, customers, demand-side response providers, and distribution energy resources.

EREC G5 modifications will be of interest for persons who:

  • Propose to connect equipment with resonant plant to the public electricity supply system that has the potential for causing or modifying voltage harmonic distortion.
  • Propose to alter such a disturbing equipment/installation as mentioned above, connected to the public electricity supply system that would result in material changes in voltage distortion.
  • Carry out assessments of the connection of disturbing equipment and the resultant voltage distortion and issue harmonic limits.
  • Measure voltage distortion caused by disturbing equipment for the purpose of checking conformance with requirements in EREC G5.

NIE Networks now propose to adopt the changes made to EREC P2 and EREC G5 in Great Britain to ensure equivalent Standard alignment.

It is also proposed to remove EREC P16 (EHV and HV Supplies to Induction Furnaces) from the Standards as this document is no longer maintained by Energy Networks Association (ENA).
The purpose of this consultation is to set out the proposed changes to ERECs P2 and G5, and seek feedback from stakeholders.

All relevant documents and information necessary to respond to the questions in this consultation are included in the Consultation Pack. The Consultation Pack includes the consultation paper, response proforma as well as copies of EREC P2 Issue 8, EREC G5 Issue 5 and Engineering Report (EREP) 130 Issue 4.

Responses to the consultation should be received by 16 February 2024 at 17:00. For your convenience, a response template “Proforma” is available in the consultation pack.
