Top Tips for keeping for keeping fish safe during a power cut:

  • Prepare Backup Power: Keep a battery-operated air pump, heater, or generator ready.
  • Insulate the Tank: Wrap in blankets and use hot water bottles to retain heat. Cover the top to trap warmth.
  • Aerate Water: Use a jug or bicycle pump every hour to move the water and maintain oxygen levels.
  • Limit Feeding: Reduce or skip feeding to minimise waste.
  • Monitor Temperature: Use ice packs or heating pads as needed to stabilise water temperature.
  • Avoid Immediate Water Changes: Wait 1–2 hours before making any changes to the aquarium.
  • Taking these precautions can help ensure your tropical fish stay safe and healthy during power outages.
