24 June 2025
NIE Networks has been asked to undertake major new customer connections in the Duncrue Street area of Belfast to support the development of a mass electric vehicle charging station and to increase electrical capacity for a redevelopment project in the area. These essential works will begin on Saturday 28 June 2025 and last for a total period of approximately four months.
The works will include installing new underground cables to increase electrical capacity for these customers. In order to minimise disruption, we have scheduled this work during the summer months, aligning two major projects to avoid further impact at a later stage.
What to Expect:
- Road closures : Closures will be necessary, but NIE Networks and our contracting partners will work extended hours, including weekends, to expedite progress.
- Business access maintained : Every effort will be made to ensure businesses remain accessible throughout the project.
- No electricity supply interruptions : These works will not result in any loss of power.
Traffic Management Details:
- Saturday 28 June 2025 – 11 July 2025 : The M2 Whitla Street off-slip (city-bound) will operate at reduced capacity, with one lane remaining open at all times under Traffic Management.
- From 21 July 2025 : Works will recommence on Duncrue Street (country bound), this is a road closure in both directions with local access only.
All Traffic Management details can be found at Traffic Watch NI.
We have engaged directly with all those businesses impacted and provided a person of contact for any queries they may have. We encourage anyone with any questions to make contact directly with NIE Networks via our Customer Contact Centre on 03457 643643.
