NIE Networks has recently achieved Autism NI’s Impact Award, demonstrating their commitment to inclusion for autistic and neurodivergent employees.
Employees received tailored training from Autism NI and implemented a tailored action plan of adjustments across their organisation, to build an inclusive workplace.
Autism NI’s Director of Development, Christine Kearney said “We are delighted that NIE Networks has achieved the Impact Award. Through their training and action plan, NIE Networks has implemented a range of practical and meaningful changes to promote accessibility. This includes reviewing recruitment procedures to build inclusive practices and implementing a range of visual communication and sensory strategies across their buildings. Every member of staff across the organisation will also have access to an ‘autism, neurodiversity and inclusion’ webinar, to help them build an open culture of respect and understanding.
By achieving the Impact Award, the organisation has shown a clear commitment to building an inclusive culture for their employees.”
Paula Leathem, Head of Human Resources at NIE Networks, said: “We’re committed to providing a truly diverse and inclusive environment and the first stage of that is to learn more, in this case about what autistic and neurodivergent people need from us to make that a reality. Our Employee Resource Group, Empowered Abilities, have worked really well in partnership with Autism NI, to roll out the training to our employees and develop a tailored action plan which is crucial for creating an inclusive environment. Achieving the Autism Impact Award is a significant milestone for us and clearly demonstrates our commitment to inclusivity and support both for our people and those we come in contact with through the course of our work.”
Autism NI work alongside autistic people and their families, and build partnerships that champion better understanding, accessibility, and services for our autism community. The Impact Award is available for a range of organisations, to build their inclusive approach for clients, customers and employees.
