NIE Networks is fully committed to facilitating the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charge points on the electricity network and have developed an EV Drivers Guide.   This will assist anyone purchasing an electric vehicle in understanding what they need to do to connect their charger to the network and the different connection processes that may be required.

It is anticipated that the number of Electric Vehicles in Northern Ireland will continue to increase with uptake becoming more rapid as we move closer to 2030 and the introduction of the government ban on new petrol and diesel cars.

Electric vehicle charge points can more than double the electricity required for a typical single household so it is imperative that NIE Networks is informed of the connection so that the necessary checks can be carried out on the network to ensure sufficient capacity.  This also allows us to plan investment accordingly and ensure the network is upgraded in line with demand.
