Will I need an on-site distribution substation for my commercial connection?

This will be at the discretion of NIE Networks following appropriate network investigation; however supplies in excess of 277KVA will require a distribution sub-station and shall be established on site, to supply the customer load.

An integral substation arrangement may not always be possible and in cases where the transformer has to be located remote to the customer’s intake position, the parallel service cables shall be as short as practicable, subject to a maximum length of 25 metres. As each connection is unique, offering individual engineering challenges please get in contact with the design Engineer to discuss site specific conditions.
