Where is a suitable location for an on-site distribution substation for a new housing development?

The site for your substation should:
• Be in a discrete location behind the front elevation or building line of neighbouring properties
• Be within 14 metres (the maximum distance at which the crane can operate) from a public or private roadway accessible from a dropped kerb footpath.
• Be a minimum of 4.5 metres deep to ensure substation doors can open without protruding over a roadway or footpath.
• Have its own separate and direct access from the road
• Substations should not be located in flood plains, if this is the case, advice and guidance must be sought from NIE Networks.
The road itself should have an axle-loading of at least 10 tonnes.
