NIE Networks need to disconnect 290 customers in the Kilkeel area on Saturday night (18th November) into Sunday morning.

Those affected will include parts of Kilkeel town centre, the Newry Road including Grange Manor, Mourne Grange, Ballymageough Road, Drumcro Road, Moyad Road and Aughrim Road.  Power is expected to be off from 10pm on Saturday 18th until 9am on Sunday 19th November.

Work is urgently required to inspect and carry out remedial work at Kilkeel Central substation following the flooding experienced on Monday 30th October as the substation was submerged in up to half a metre in flood water.

Trevor Harron, Head of Asset Management with NIE Networks, explained: “The Central substation supplies power to a large part of Kilkeel but we have put as many mitigations in place as possible to reduce the number of customers impacted.  The engineers will be working through the night and will aim to restore power to customers as quickly as we possibly can as the work progresses.”
