Due to Storm Arwen there is a possibility of power cuts.

Improving The Network In Enniskillen

NIE Networks is undertaking a programme of works to upgrade the electricity network in Enniskillen. The project commenced in early 2019. We will be one of several major utility providers working in the area to ensure that upgrade works to their infrastructure and systems are undertaken before the Council begins the Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme.

The Enniskillen Public Realm Scheme is a £5.2 million project which will see improvements to footpaths, street lighting, landscaping and street furniture. It is anticipated to start in summer 2019, once the utility providers have completed their programme of activity.

Why Is The Electricity Network Upgrade Needed?

Representing an investment of £1 million by NIE Networks, the electricity network upgrade will replace the existing low voltage cable network within the Public Realm Scheme area.

Reliability issues can occur with older electricity cables and parts of the network in this area are approximately 80 years old. The work planned will modernise the electricity infrastructure in Enniskillen.

Approximately 7km of mains cable will be laid with most of the underground cables located in the public footway. Where required, existing older services to individual premises will be replaced. We will be working closely with over 200 customers in the area to agree the work in advance and ensure a smooth undertaking of any necessary alterations.

A Phased Approach

The project will be divided into six phases starting on Anne Street and working towards Forthill Road, with some works on adjacent side streets and roads. Work will be carried out at several locations within each phase at the same time.
In each work zone we will aim to complete the work within one footpath, before moving to the opposite footpath to help minimise disruption to businesses, traffic flow and members of the public.

The first phase of work will commence in February 2019 and it is anticipated the full project will run into 2020.
