Keeping Our Communities Safe

Electricity is critical within our modern day society but it remains extremely dangerous. The safety of our employees, contractors and the general public remains our number one value.

Safety inspections are regularly carried out by our managing director and senior team and public safety outreach is delivered by employees of all levels to teach people how to stay safe around electricity.

In 2013 we spoke to 15,500 people and 19,000 school children about public safety with more targeted via our media and social media campaigns which targets different groups every month (eg. children, fishing clubs, sailing clubs, farmers, DIY enthusiasts and contractors).
These campaigns have led to partnerships with plant hire firms, the Ulster Farmers Union, schools and emergency services to help deliver the safety message. We also work with partners to reduce bogus callers. Our meter readers delivered leaflets to all homes in Northern Ireland about the PSNI’s Quick Check scheme – a scheme which customers can use to check a NIE Networks' employee calling at their door or someone from a different agency.
