How can I apply for a placement with NIE Networks?

Applications will be assessed on the basis of subjects studied, interest demonstrated in a career in electrical engineering and the quality (i.e. spelling and grammar) of the application.

Where will work experience take place?

Opportunities for work experience are normally based in either our Craigavon or Ballymena Depot.  The final decision regarding where the placement is based will be made after considering the home address of successful applicants to the programme.  We will always aim to accommodate as many applicants as possible and the placement location will be confirmed to the successful applicants.

Travel during the placement to various NIE Networks’ work locations and site works will be facilitated by the company.

If successful it is important to note that you will be responsible for organising your own travel arrangements (including expenses) to the work placement.

Can I apply for work placements if I am not based in the UK?

No, we only accept applications from people who have the right to work in the UK. 

Do I need to inform my careers teacher if I have been successful?
Yes, you need to inform your careers teacher about your work placement and dates, so the necessary paperwork (indemnity form) can be arranged. In order for applications to be processed all indemnity forms need to be returned to NIE Networks one week before the work placement begins.

Will there be transport provided?

It will be your responsibility to meet at the central NIE Networks' location. We will provide transport on the day between NIE Networks' depots.

What should I wear for my work experience placement?

Dress is smart informal, if there are specific requirements we will advise you in advance.

What are the hours of a work experience placement?

Placements will normally be from 09.30 – 15.30; however, certain placements may require work outside of these hours.
