Electric sparks at Seagate conference

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), the network company, recently attended a workshop at the Seagate Real World Science Conference at St. Mary’s College Londonderry/Derry to promote careers in electrical engineering.

Organised by Seagate, the conference encourages young people to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects and consider careers in these fields. NIE held a workshop at the event where year 10 pupils were tasked with building a model electric car to help them understand the future challenges facing the electricity industry.

Speaking at the event Jenni McKeown, NIE Graduate Engineer said, "There are less and less young people choosing to study STEM subjects and take up STEM related careers. This event is a great opportunity for NIE to connect with young people in science and innovation at a critical point when they are considering their future career paths. "
