Upgrading overhead power lines in Kilrea
In the coming months, we will be investing over £1million in Kilrea to upgrade the overhead powerlines in the area.
Alwyn Hunt, Project Delivery Manager for NIE Networks, says this investment will benefit the local area. “As part of our ongoing programme of asset renewal, we will replace the 11,000 volt (11kV) network in the Kilrea area with high capacity lines, increasing the network’s resilience against severe weather and enabling the network to meet the growing demand for electricity in this area.
“Our experienced lines teams will work with local contractor TOC Contracts on the project and we have designed the programme to ensure homes and businesses in the area will be affected as little as possible. We may have to take you off supply to allow our teams to work safely on the network, but any customer likely to have their electricity supply affected by this investment programme will be notified in advance of the date and time of the interruptions.”
Investing In Your Area
Our programme of investment will begin this summer and over the coming months our experienced lines teams will replace 31kms of overhead high voltage powerlines.
The work includes the replacement of 524 electricity poles and 36 pole mounted transformers.
At NIE Networks, we are committed to providing a reliable elecricity for our customers. This investment work will improve reliability, giving our customers in the area a greater security of supply. The upgrading project will also provide greater network resilience in the event of severe weather.
We are writing to over 600 customers in the area, who may be affected by this investment work. All householders will also be contacted prior to any work commencing on their property. We may need to interrupt your electricity supply to allow our contractors to work safely, but we will give you notice so that you can make alternative arrangements if necessary.
Our investment work will run from August 2016 and is due to complete in Spring 2017.
