Replacing credit meters

If we need to replace your credit meter, our contracted meter installer will call at your home to arrange a suitable time.

Who carries out the work?

This work will be carried out by NIE Networks.

What happens if I'm not at home when they call?

If you're not in, a card will be left to allow you to contact the installer directly via a freephone number to arrange access.

In some cases, for example, where there is access to the meter in an outdoor meter box or enclosure, it may be changed while you are not at home. A card will be left to advise you that it has been changed.

You may currently have a meter with a dial or a clock. Your old meter will be replaced by a smaller, digital meter. We will fit the new meter in the same place and we will take away and responsibly dispose of the old meter.

What do I need to do?

You will need to ensure the area around the meter is clear and there is good access. The meter installer will ask you to turn off all electrical appliances before switching off power to your home for 10-15 minutes.

How long will it take?

It will take approximately 30 minutes to one hour to replace the meter and carry out all relevant safety checks.

How do I use the new meter?

When the meter has been fitted the installer will show you how to read the new meter.
