Figures released on Storm Doris power outages

27/02/2017
Over 20,000 people experienced power cuts during the recent severe weather according to the official figures issued by NIE Networks.

Sara McClintock, Communications Manager at NIE Networks said, “Storm Doris’ severe winds affected thousands of electricity customers across Northern Ireland on Thursday. Following advice from the Met Office, we had teams in place early on Thursday morning and so were able to respond quickly when the storm hit. Customers across Northern Ireland were affected however communities in the southern counties bore the brunt of the damage.”

Several hundred individual faults had to be repaired and extensive tree cutting, pole replacement and line restringing had to be carried out. In many cases this work was done during the hours of darkness.
