* You would apply for an upgrade when you have an existing electricity connection and you are undertaking changes that require more power. You will need to tell us what you are doing and the extra power you require and may need to employ the services of a qualified electrician to help you determine this information. We will assess whether your existing cable or overhead line is able to carry the increased power and also whether it is available from the local network.

If capacity is available and your cable/line is suitably sized it may be that you only need to have your meter changed, in which case you would need to contact your electricity supplier.

If your cable or line is not of a suitable size we will need to bring in a larger service to your property and disconnect the existing service. CT metering may or may not be involved but you are likely to need a new meter in any case. All of these works need to be carried out on the same day if you are not in a position to be without power; this will require you to co-ordinate the appointments with NIE Networks and your electricity supplier.
**NIE Networks would organise the installation of the CTs and your electricity supplier would arrange for their metering agents to fit a new meter. This will need to occur on the same day to ensure you are not left without power.
***You may be required to pay a builder to carry out additional work such as the excavation of a cable track.
