How the process works



 

Option 1 - NIE Networks completes the full works 


1. Submit  application - You

Apply online or by post.

2. Acknowledgement - NIE Networks

If you submit your application online you will receive confirmation via email. Once we review your application you will get your job reference number within 5 working days. One of our advisors will contact you to talk through your application.

3. Quotation - NIE Networks

We will provide you with a formal quotation within 15 days that will be valid for 90 days, after which time the quote will expire and if we need to re-issue a quote the costs may increase.

4. Accept terms & payment - You

You can accept our terms online if using our online payment system or return your signed Acceptance of Terms by post to our Channel Wharf address listed above.

You can pay in multiple ways:

  • Online payments (Debit card /Credit card)
  • Online Banking (Banks Transfer BACs)
  • Cheque


You/Your ICP will be required to enter into an adoption agreement with NIE Networks.

5. Site visit & survey - NIE Networks

Site visits are usually carried out within 7-10 working days. If your new connection is over 200 metres from the nearest point of connection a full site survey will be required which may take up to 3 months. 

6. Third party consents - NIE Networks

If your connections requires electricity equipment to be sited on other people’s land, we will need to get the permission of the landowner or government bodies before we can proceed. This can sometimes take up to 9 months or longer and we may need to requote for your job.

7. Register with a supplier - You

To ensure we can complete the job, you need to register with an electricity supplier. Get a list of suppliers >

8. On-site Construction begins - NIE Networks

Once we’ve received full payment (if applicable) and all legalities have been obtained we will contact you to agree a date to start your work. Please prepare your site according to the design agreed and ensure your electrician’s work is complete. If your supply requires NIE Networks to carry out the excavation we will normally do so 1-2 days prior to connecting your meter.

9. Complete and return a connection card - You

Download a connection card, get your electrician to fill in the details, and submit to us by email.

10. Connecting your meter - NIE Networks

Once you have registered with an electricity supplier and submitted your connection card to us, we will contact you to arrange an appointment to complete the installation of your meter.

Option 2 -  NIE Networks undertakes the non-contestable works only

4. Choose your ICP

When you select option 2, you should choose your accredited ICP who will complete the Contestable Works associated with your connection. Send us their details as soon as possible by submitting your ICP Nomination Form along with your Acceptance of Terms.

6. Submit a design - ICP

Submit a connection design for the Contestable Works to us for review
 

7. Review connection design - NIE Networks

Verify your ICP’s accreditation and review their connection design to confirm it complies with our policies and specifications

8. Register with a supplier - You

To ensure we can complete the job, you need to register with an electricity supplier. Get a list of suppliers >

9. Contestable Legal Consents & Construction Works - ICP

Develop a pre-construction and construction programme and undertake pre-construction, construction and pre-commissioning activities for the Contestable Works. This will include obtaining any legal consents required before undertaking the contestable construction works.

10. Non-Contestable Construction Works and Inspections - NIE Networks


Engage with you and/or your ICP to undertake pre-construction for the Non-Contestable Works. Undertake construction and pre-commissioning of the Non-Contestable Works and complete quality assurance inspections of your ICP

11. Commissioning and Adoption - NIE Networks

Your ICP will submit a signed Completion Certificate to NIE Networks once all of the Contestable Works are complete.

NIE Networks will then undertake commissioning activities and upon successful energisation, NIE Networks will accept and transfer ownership and operational responsibilities of Contestable Works from your ICP. 

12. Complete and return a connection card - You

Download a connection card, get your electrician to fill in the details, and submit to us by email.

13. Connecting your meter - NIE Networks

Once you have registered with an electricity supplier and submitted your connection card to us, we will contact you to arrange an appointment to complete the installation of your meter,
